View Full Version : 1945s Mms-006
This looks like the S is upside down? Any ideas?
I think that it is more likely that the end of the S is missing on the bottom. I looked at some pictures, and my opinion would be that it is not inverted....but I could be wrong. At first glance, I was convinced that it was inverted, but after further review, I would lean toward it being regular, but missing the end.

I think if it were missing on the lower half it wouldn't be so rounded to look the end.. Either that or the top is enlongated but I couldn't find anything resembling it on Coppercoins either.

It DOES look inverted to me.
Pat, you should find another 1945 S, and do a side-to-side comparison for us...or one of your fancy overlays. You guys could be right.
Yeah.. You know I only posted it after searching through many 45's.. :) I'm upgrading my camera for the scope.. So no camera for the next week or so, since I returned the other one..:)

Thanks David...
The answer is in. Looks like Brad and Dr. Wiles are on the same page.
Patrick:
This is the MMS-006 (Ball serif) style, which has the flat spot on the lower serif. This is its normal orientation. Thus it is NOT inverted. You can see addition mintmark styles at www.varietyvista.com (http://www.varietyvista.com/).
Thanks,
James Wiles

The 1945 mint mark is in the correct position and not inverted. To date, the only inverted mint mark on a Lincoln cent was in 1946 with the ball serif type mint mark being inverted.
