    2011P Lincoln cent with anomaly

    Okay folks, here is a brain teaser for you all to contemplate.

    I came across this last night an I have seen similar anomalies like this before. However, I would like to see what you all think. If you do supply an answer, please describe the action that caused the anomaly.

    As you can see by the pictures, only the word LIBERTY is affected. No other design element shows this extra thickness.

    It is a trail die coin. (Produced as trails are produced. LOL)

      I've seen it many times also but never questioned what causes it.
      Now is the time for me to find out. Drum roll please...

          Yes, it is a trail die and a bit unusual. Instead of just a single line the trail is spread evenly across the left side of the affected design, which in this case is LIBERTY. The offset direction appears to be around 250 degrees.
