2000 with a partial Memorial on Obverse

I found this one a while back and threw it aside for a closer look. It has a partial Memorial on it. It's not indented on the face. It is more like a permanent stain. Is this just a case of another coin sitting on it and corroding? I'm about to through it back into the mix.

It's kind cool though. I wouldn't toss it, but keep it for a conversation piece or educational tool.
