After the pick - Grades are in!

You have all seen these coins posted here before but afterwards they were sent to PCGS for grading and eventual addition to my sets once PCGS gets around to adding the the CPG varieties to the sets. As always - there were surprises. I thought it would be fun and educational to post some results.

The first 34 DDO listed was my very first pick from the new CPG on Ebay. I never saw it higher than a 63 R&B. Surprise!

The next 34 DDO was no surprise. I felt it too had been lightly cleaned, so PCGS did the right thing and say it was Genuine - questionable color.

The 49 S DDO was purchased attributed in a ANACS 64 RED holder - Nice surprise.

And the last coin Brad knows well as I bought it from him in an attributed ANACS MS 64 RED holder - another nice surprise.

Thanks for the updates, and congrats on the results. I've been keeping an eye out for both of those, and do appear to be fairly scarce so far.

Nice results.....I assume the ANACS holders were newer as I heard they were being too tough....but that can work to your advantage.

Awesome set of coins! That '34-D is an eye popper! Heck, I would be happy with the lightly cleaned one!

Correct Maineman750, newer ANACS holders. And while ANACS may be getting tighter on grading, I believe its PCGS who has shifted the other direction with more relaxed grading.

I kind of agree with you assessment right now between the grading services. I'm still a fan of PCGS, but I have noticed that on some of my submissions grades were generally on the mark of what I believed them to be or even a point higher in some cases. In the past I would make my assessment of the grade, and be happy to hit that upon finalization. Then on occasion miss either a color designation or the coin would be a point or two lower then I expected. It does seem like they're maybe not as "tight" as they have been in the recent past. This is the typical cycle though, and the coin should always stand on its own merits.

Results may vary on any given submission I suppose, I'll probably continue to stick with PCGS mainly because I don't have a membership with the other grading companies.

                          Nicely done, Bob!
I guess the 2006 FS-101 is the doubled earlobe variety?
The new CPG screwed it up and labeled both major varieties for 2006 as the same variety, FS-101.
                          I guess we call 1-do-17 "FS-102?"
Sure wish that somebody proof read that before it went to press.
                          Congrats on the great submission!

I completely agree with WS on PCGS is grading easier. Except if you are doing cross overs, then they will not grade better then ANACS, you might get half graded in the same grade. Be sure when you break them out of the holder they are nice. This is the second time i've seen them grade two grades better then ANACS. I had a couple nickels come back 2 grades higher after breaking them out.
