    1993D DDO (double ear) ?

This 1993D is pretty scratched up (sadly), but is there some doubling, particularly on the ear?

I thought it might be scratches (since there are many others), but it doesn't act like that.

And, I thought it might be Machine Doubling, but it is not so flat (but maybe it is).

Or, I thought it might be die deterioration.

    What do you think?

    Thanks for looking...

I think you hit it on the head with die deterioration. Can you get a full coin shot so we can see what the rest of the coin looks like?

Maybe part of that is zinc rot lifting the plating following the ears edge where the plating is stretched and thin.

There are lots of scratches on the obverse. I think there might be some die deterioration here, plus (what looks like doubling on the bottom of the lobe) are 2 or 3 scratches, I think.

When I saw your title I was sure hoping Astro Raider! You know, Wexler has a 84 DDO ear, I didn't know about it until the other day. That doubled die also exhibits doubling on the beard (and it mentions the eye but doesn't show a pic of it) Can you take a pic of the full obverse?

To me it looks like some split plating that has corroded then circ wear has pushed some of the metal toward the edge... The high spots on the lobe look flattened!!!
