Ok, Little story first;
I took a trip to the bank this weekend to stuff my latest acquisitions in the vault and get a selection of change for my daughter-in-laws latest yard sale, a couple rolls of cents, nickels, dimes and quarters. Lot of effort I think for dumping stuff on a lawn. Just price everything at a buck.
Anyway, I threw the rolls in my bank bag and left. When I got home i took out the rolls and noticed one of the penny rolls didn't have crimped ends but the standard fold over instead. I don't go through rolls anymore and haven't since the late 80's. Nothing in them. Not worth the time.
For some reason I opened the folded end roll and was surprised beyond belief to see a shiny brand new 1963 cent staring back at me. Now we all know that i would take maybe 10 of these just to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but it definitely increased my anticipation for what I hoped would come.
So, I got out my trusty albeit dusty loupe and begin examining the roll. Nothing special through most of it until I came across this 1972.
Well, I do not collect memorials other than buying major ddo's, ddr's when I get a chance. However, lo and behold my trusty dusty loupe shot back a me the image of a definite ddo.
Granted I knew it was not the major 72DDO, but knew it was one of the seemingly infinite varieties. I examined it thoroughly could not determine exactly which it was. I settled on a type 3.
Now, can anyone give me a definite type from the images here. I know it is probably worthless. Its definitely not uncirculated, full red, of even nicely toned, however, it would be a nice offering for the collection in our local youth coin club.
Neat find anyway.
