Really pronounced splits on both serifs Larry.
Is that a die chip or hit on the base of the 5?

It's a hit Cliff and there are some on Abe's skull that look like meteor hits on the moon!!

Very nice splits on that RPM Larry J! Congrats! I've seen this anomaly you're describing as meteor hits on the moon and always wondered what causes that. It's the opposite of a die subsidence error (i.e. goiter cent) where the anomaly is raised on the cent. I wonder if it's a lam that has broken loose that causes that crater?

Hadn't thought of that Vivien and that could be what caused it. Thanks and good reasoning!!

Thanks Larry J! It's just the only thing I can think of that makes sense If that is what it is, then those were some really big lams!

Fantastic splits Larry and a great find!! As my Dad used to say "Blind Mitchell could feel that with his cane"! The MS version of this guy had some crazy cracks all over the head. Could that come into play with the possible LAMs? Looking at the variety subject coin on cc, there almost looks like there could have been one or more RIDB's.

Another nice find Larry... Using the vertical bar as a reference the location of the splits do not match CCs 017 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/d...&die_state=mds The closest I come is CCs 004 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/d...&die_state=lds which crosses tho VVs 004 http://varietyvista.com/02b%20LC%20R...959DRPM004.htm CC only has a LDS sample and VV starts at Stage B... Unless you can match some markers for another stage I think yours may be a Stage A???
