    1956D-1MM-004 late MDS early LDS

Going through a bunch of random Lincolns that my Dad had stored in baggies and ran across this well circulated RPM. It still shows very well though and looks to be somewhere between stage C and D on VV's examples. Not much showing in the way of markers but the chip and crack at the base of the bust is there for showing the approximate stage.

    Thanks for looking, Jon.

Nice find Jon... I think you are rite on the Stage C... The crack on VVs Stage D http://www.varietyvista.com/02a%20LC...956DRPM004.htm looks to have split the chip in 2 and yours is still a solid chip!!!

Nice looking RPM Jon! How cool to have some baggies of coins to go through that your dad put aside! Great job on the photos and attribution... scope is doing a nice job!

Thanks Jim!! It's been fun going through coins my dad had tossed aside from over the years. I don't get a shot at RPM's too often, so when I do find one it's a treat!! You can just barely see the crack on the east side of the chip but as you said it has not split the chip yet. That's why I think it's in between the two stages. In stage C you cannot see any crack on the east side of the chip. At least that's what I think I see.....

Thanks Viv!! Yeah, it's been cool to look through coins he tossed aside over the years. I don't think he looked for varieties, just keeping different off the wall coins that he would run across in change. It's been a mix of foreign coins, coins of different denominations, silver and even tokens. For the most part though its wheats and Lincolns from the 60's. I'm starting to get dialed in on this last scope I bought, hopefully it will hold up for awhile.

Thanks Larry!! I'm not 100% on whether he dealt with varieties or not. Some of the things he kept make me wonder...

Congratulations on getting to go through your dad's coins.
And I like Larry's description of them as "story coins". Very appropriate.

Thanks Cliff!! Yeah, I've enjoyed this, I guess that's kind of where I got some of my love of coins from, from my Pap! He did not have anything in flips or labeled at all, just in different bags. Lots of foreign stuff too and also tokens. I like Larry's "story coin".
