1974 D PMD or Weird CUD?

It looks like rim damage but above also looks like may be part of a CUD? I’m not sure what this is. The edge is not damaged at all. Can anyone else tell?

Definitely not a cud, Sheila. Not 100% about what's above what your looking at but what your main focus is on is PMD and more than likely the area above it is too.

It looks like it may have suffered from PSD later in its life but I believe this is a lamination fold from being improperly mixed.

Sheila, I took your image and added some arrows to show what I'm seeing.
There seems to be a recessed trough going along the rim that a thin layer of copper peeled away from and onto the field and LIBERTY.
Maybe there was some improperly mixed zinc under the copper layer or grease that dissolved away leaving a void.
Enough of my fantasy world. LOL
      Here's the image.

I agree with Jim. Somebody record this moment in the timeline of great events.
