In a circulated roll from a $25 N.F. String & Son box from the same bank I always get them from. Things have been looking up lately. I also found a 2000 wide AM (RDV-006) today from the same box.

I will send it for grading but not right away. I need to find some friends to send with it to keep the average freight costs per coin down. If I'm lucky It'll come back as MS61RB but more realistically it'll come back AU. The photo really doesn't do the coin justice. It's got a really nice color and strong details. I will sell it someday but probably not for a few years, when I need some tuition money for my kids.
As for your slump, just keep looking. I was in one a couple months ago then a 1999 RDV-006(Wide AM) came along. The drought was over. We all have them. Just keep pluggin' along.:)

You could try varying your sources, sometimes that's worthwhile.

Very good condition. I found one in circ about 6 months ago. Somehow it graded MS61 Brwn. Yours looks alot better than mine.

I have a list, but let's start with the 1982 zinc small date DDR that was recently discovered!

Sounds good to me. I was thinking either that one or the '83 DDR. You made up my mind for me. The '82 it is. Here goes.

Hmmm. I'm doing something wrong. I only did half a box but found nothing good. I'm going to pick up a couple more boxes in the morning. Maybe that's where the '82 is hiding. I'll let you know when I find it so you'll know when you can expect yours to show up. ;-)

Thanks Billy.
It came my way just a few months after a gentleman at a show in Boston tried to sell me one(NGC MS66RD) for $600. He laughed at me when I told him I was trying to find one in circulation. I told him he'd be surprised what could be found in circulation and showed him my 1988 transitional. He wasn't impressed.:squigglemouth: I'm having the last laugh.

I'm laughing with you my friend!!!!
Major varieties have been and STILL ARE out there to be found in circulation. Yes, it does take a lot of effort and one has to stay persistent, but they can be found.
I have come across the 1983 1c Major DDR five times out of circulation.
Like I said earlier -- I'm laughing all the way to the bank!

They are out there indeed. Can't tell you how many times something unexpected turns up. Search long enough and one will find something, maybe not what you were looking for but none the less rewarding worth the time and effort. But watch out ones that happens... your hooked.
There is also a lottery aspect to roll searching. Some people spend tons of hours some spend few. There are some people who have come accross major varieties (the BIG ones) who would not describe themselves as a variety hunters. They just came across them. Variety hunters are a different breed and have it on brain try to leave no "stone unturned" so to speak. But there are no guarantees ... and that too what makes it fun.

I'm still holding it but I plan on sending it to NGC within the next few months. I need to accumulate enough coins worthy of grading to cut down on the per-coin shipping charges. Man, am I cheap?:tinysmile_hmm_t2:Thanks for thinking of me.:)
