Have several rolls of both 71-s and 70-s Lincolns having that same charateristic right between the middle of the S and the bottom serif.
It is not an RPM . Very common feature after the design change which occured that year. ( .. then design continued from 1970-1973. )
Will post several S MM in this date range with the exact same feature. Years ago I questioned this feature on several rolls of 70-S and 71-S'es.
and and have it from a reliable source it is not an RPM. I am not sure if they reached agreement that it was a die chip however..
