    clashed 1998-P????

Has anyone ever seen a clashed die cent with this raised metal in the area next to the 3rd column from the right, right above the urn....it is the EXACT same shape as the NEGATIVE space on obverse where Abe's lower lip curves into the beginning of his beard...that space is shaped like 1/2 a "spade".....as in playing cards Ace....and, when I use my tweezers to locate the opposing area...walla....chin clash......strangely, this penny came with one of those cancelled Mint Dies from 1998...has the certificate, the die, and, this cent from the production timeframe....there are a zillion die polish lines above ONE CENT...

This is a classic clashed died. The clashed areas line up exactly with the obverse, and the areas you mentioned are right on the money.

Thanks Bob...I enjoy the mystery of die clashes...I am not familiar with the top 10 Lincoln Cent names for the top 10 die clashes, as I am with Eisenhower Dollars(Talon head, Jaw Line, Moon Line, Hair Lip, and the "Eye Clash"(I discovered that one in 2008)....)...and, whether any are valuable, and, listed by ANACS as such? ....One thing I would like to put together for the group here is a diagram of both Obverse and Reverse, with the official nomenclature for the elements in the design, so, when listing questions, we can refer to the chart, and pinpoint the exact name and location of what we are trying to show....for example, I don't think the "urns" above the steps, as I called it, are called urns...I know this may seem idiotic to more experienced cent collector's, but, to us beginners, it would be very helpful.............I have also seen computer images somewhere of reverse-obverse layovers that is very helpful in zoning in on clash origins..can't recall which coin on which site though...as mentioned, I now own the used Mint Die from which this particular coin(so they say), was produced, albeit, ground smooth of course....I was shocked on the COA about how many cents were produced so swiftly...it says the die ran for 4 days in July of 1998, producing 374,000 cents.....reason for pulling the die was "Piece Out of Die"......somebody get their calculator out and figure out cents per minute for me.....

There are some publications that have the picture of a Lincoln Cent with all of the devices labeled. Here is a link that might help you out a bit. I will see if I can't locate the one of the Lincoln cent I have and get you a copy.
