[Example] Double struck Reverse Die Cap

As I pack my coins away to leave behind when I go to college, thought it would be cool to end with a neat error coin. Here is a 2000 double struck reverse die cap, graded MS65 RD by PCGS.

No worries, I will still be checking in at the friendly LCF. Of course, studies will come first but rest assured I will not be a stranger to you all.

It would be more accurately characterized as a centered double strike with a 90% indent on the second strike. By convention, reverse die caps require 100% coverage or something very close to it. The coin is also grossly overgraded given the severe abrasions that appear on both faces.

                Beware of the "Eggnog" !!
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

                    Thanks for this post!

Can one of these be found in circulation?

Possible but extremely unlikely. First off, it would get found when it won't fit in a roll. Even in years when bags were shipped, you could go through a lot of bags and not find anything that major and probably spend more money doing it than you could buy a coin like it for. Most big error dealers will tell you that buying them is easier than finding them.
Most huge errors nowdays probably come from someone with connections to an outfit that rolls coins.

However, you might find a normal diameter coin that was struck through a capped die. Plenty of nice ones have been posted here that people found in rolls.

Probably not with the way modern cents are distributed...at least not to this extreme
