Anyone have a good source for unsearched wheat rolls?

I didn't want to rain on Jonathans thread, so I thought I'd ask the question in a slightly different way. So here goes....does anyone have a source for wheat rolls that produce consistently good results?

I've bought a dozen or so rolls from different sources and my best find was an AU55 1909 VDB. Now you might say that that's a good find, but when you bounce it against the what I paid for a dozen rolls, I paid roughly $76.00 for that coin! Concurrently, when I do a ToolHaus search on feedback for the folks selling rolls and bags, I find many many complaints!

I guess what I'm asking is, is there a consistently good source for keys and semi-keys in rolls and bags? And, I'm wondering, is my question the same as if I asked, does anyone have a consistently good source for winning lottery numbers?

Keeping it short and sweet...Yes!

Reputable sellers that sell OBW rolls is your best bet I think. Might not be for key dates but varieties. Ebay sellers... forget a bowdit!

OBW - Original Bank Wrapped rolls. Not the red/white (String and Son rolls).

Ok, after doing a quick eBay search of OBW, I find it's not quite that easy. It seems that some folks are selling OBW's that (since I work in the banking industry) might not be really OBW's. Imagine that! Or maybe again I'm misunderstanding. So, let me ask...when a roll has a bank name that wasn't in existence in the 50's, should I assume that it isn't really an OBW?

You work in the banking industry! I've thought of changing careers into that field just because I'm a collector that or Coinstar. Your location isn't on your post so which state are you in Hawkeye? Kentucky?

I don't know the names of the banks that were operational back then but it wouldn't be hard to find out. Joe mentioned above that the "String and Son" rolls are not OBW. I personally go by reputation and the appearance of the rolls themselves.

No person can guarantee that a roll has never been searched by anyone only that it has not been searched by the person selling it.

I have 1964 cent rolls that came sealed in a bank bag (Lead seal) and I have not searched them but I cannot guarantee that they have not been searched by anyone else and they are tight rolls. I purchased the bag at a auction about 5 years ago.

Rolls made for a bank (With name on them) can be bought or used by anyone from any year as long as they have a crimping machine. If the bank did not exist when the coins came out would be suspect that searched coins were being put into the rolls after they were searched.

I think your just going to have to trust the bidder on him saying "truly never opened" Read his feedback and find out what other people have said about him. See how truthful he really is. You might get lucky in some rolls you might not. But hey, that's a risk we have to be willing to take.

I know you meant to say "Trust the seller" and that's the last thing I would do and everyone here that has dealt with feebay would agree.

I don't do testimonials or what the seller says his customers say. If they want to impress me then post the negative feedback left.

work with coin rolling machines...first most think of a obw as a roll that was machine rolled and both ends are tight...note that their is a hand roller on the market that allows some one to close the one end that was left open for filling...watch for rolls that have the older looking paper the brown paper is most likely before 1960's...newer red /white is current...some banks did stamp their rolls with dates...watch the ebays that use generic pictures ask for good pic of ends of rolls...any honest seller will send more picture so that you can seen the rolls better...remember that most rolls are sold as is no return..but ask if the rolls are not obw can they be returned...richard
