As soon as I found it, I went on every coin forum I could find! As soon as I get confirmation back from Dr. Wiles, I'll be updating everyone on those forums.
2 Questions:
1. Do you think that there are others who don't have the internet that has found one and not been to any forums? Jeff Snow (Snowman), the first one to report it, had it published in Coin World issue Aug 27, 2007 page 90. They may have read it, but not sent it to be authenticated by anyone.
2. When does the new Cherrypicker's Guide come out?Comment

2) I don't know when the new(fifth edition) will be coming out. I would be very interested to learn the answer to that question.Comment

I sent them to Dr. Wiles on Monday, Dec. 10th. I really can't afford to get it slabbed/graded at the moment, but if it makes it into the cherrypicker's guide or something like that with a good premium, then I'll definitely do it ASAP. No offense to anyone else, but I hope nobody finds anymore, 6 is enough!Comment

I was wondering, since I was fairly sure that majoring in coin collection was not an option at my college.Comment

I have been watching and you have been doing a lot to get the information out about this transitional die. I see that several have been found from the Philly mint but only one from Denver at this point. With at least one sale for the 88P there is at least a starting point for the value of that one. I guess I will still hold onto the 88D a while longer and see what happens. I was expecting the 88P to sell for a bit more though. I had a guess of about twice the sale price. Never can outguess those auctions though.

It just needs to become more widely recognized. That is why I have been doing my best to generate interest. In addition to what you have seen in my posts I have also been doing a little work behind the scenes. I have sent some emails to people who may be able to generate a lot more publicty for the variety. J.T. Stanton among others. If we don't do it, who will? It is in our own best interests to get as many people as possible to start looking for it. The more popular it becomes the more demand there will be for it. Especially in your case where you hold the only known Dever example. I suggest we do what we can where we can. Can you post the nice photos you have of your Denver specimen here? And when you decide to sell, please let me know the details. I'd love to own a matching set.Last edited by Guest; 12-14-2007, 09:18 AM.Comment

1988D RDV-006 Transitional Die Variety. Only one known at this time. I have not had this coin certified but I did send it Dr. Wiles for attribution. It is listed with photos on coneca's site. http://varietyvista.com/1988DRDV006%20cent.htm

On the opposite end of the spectrum, or should I say, the "other side of the coin" there is a horror story I think everyone may want to read before mailing your coins to a stranger:
I had never had a problem but after reading this thread I would definately think long and hard about to whom I send my coins.
Brefos77, Just be glad you chose to send your coin to one of the "good guys".Comment

Oh yeah, I know he's busy (esp during the Holidays), I just wanted to update the situation. And I do feel blessed (and relieved) he let me know what was going on on his end also. Thanks for the bad attributer link, Car10. Hopefully it opened a few eyes for a few people!Comment
